Teaching Moments - Thank You Ben Franklin

By John Bishop Ben Franklin believed in strong personal character development. He planned to be successful by excelling in the thirteen specific character traits listed below. He set a goal to focus on improving one of these characteristic each week. The next week he would work on improving another character trait with equal determination. Week after week he focused on improving one character development trait at a time. After thirteen weeks he finished the list and simply started at the beginning of the list again. He worked his plan for over fifty years one week and one characteristic at a time. History suggests that his plan worked. Below are the thirteen character traits Ben Franklin worked on to improve his chances for success. Character Traits Self-control - be determined and disciplined in your efforts. Silence - listen better in all discussions. Order - dont agonize organize. Pledge - promise to put your best effort into todays activities. Thrift - watch how you spend your money and your time. Productive - work hard work smart have fun. Fairness - treat others the way you want to be treated. Moderation - avoid extremes. Cleanliness - have clean mind, body, and habits. Tranquility - take time to slow down and smell the roses. Charity - help others. Humility - keep your ego in check. Sincerity - be honest with yourself and others. Suggestions for implementation:  Choose four characteristics. Individually or as a family highlight one for each of the next four weeks. Focus on improving that one characteristic for the week.  Communicate during the week on how things are going. Do you need some help? Questions for discussion:  During the week have you noticed several opportunities to positively improve?  What do you think you will learn about yourself from the exercise?  Will you take another four characteristics for the next month? Personal Information: What Should You Discuss During The Job Interview

By Carl Mueller How much personal information should you reveal during a job interview? Quite simply, there are some things that you may not want to offer up during an interview. Were not talking about lying, were simply talking about the fact that some things are better left unsaid and dont need to be divulged during an interview. Depending on where you live and the local laws that govern hiring, interviewers tend to shy away from asking questions related to your sex, gender, race, religion, marital status, age, sexual preference and other personal areas especially when they dont directly relate to the job. If you are a woman, you should not expect to be asked if youre planning to have children so there is really no need to offer this information up either. Unless its directly related to the job and your ability to perform it, you probably wont be asked a lot of unrelated personal questions so be careful with what information you volunteer. There might be questions that do touch on personal issues when it is relevant to the job. For example, this could include asking you about your propensity to travel if the job requires significant travel. Alternatively you could be asked about your ability to speak a certain language if its a requirement of the job. Sometimes, personal questions are asked by inexperienced interviewers with no malice intended and they may not realize the question is inappropriate. This is no excuse for them to do this, but just watch how you react and respond to the question. If you find that the interview is starting to move into the realm of personal questions or if you accidentally steer the interview in that direction by offering up personal information that you maybe shouldnt have, try to steer the interview back into a discussion of the job. The company you are going to interview with is most likely not going to tell you everything about them if you dont ask. If the last person who held the job you are interviewing for was fired because they had an office affair, do you think the interviewer will tell you? Or do you think theyll probably just tell you that the last person who held the job left the company for another opportunity or something like that? Probably the latter. You simply need to be careful with what information you choose to divulge because it can be used against you. While certain personal information might be necessary to discuss during the interview, interviewers tend to stay away from asking many personal questions so if a question is not asked, you probably dont have to feel an obligation to volunteer to divulge it. 5 Steps to Keep a Relationship Fresh and Exciting

By Ted Segura 1.Date your partner Do you still remember your 1st date with the person you really liked or fell in love with? Were you not excited about it? Sure you were! Do you want to know how exciting a relationship can help you enhance your marriage? Let us tell you that it is still very vivid in our minds the excitement we had in our first date. Perhaps we may not remember all the details but we can surely not forget how we felt. All attention was just towards each other and as the saying goes the world seemed to have stopped. And you wished the night would never end. Well then, continue to date your partner reliving those moments to keep the freshness and closeness of your relationship. It’s knowing how exciting a relationship can inspire both of you. Its a precious moment were you both can freely communicate leaving behind the daily work, chores and problems. Its a time to relax and just enjoy each others presence after a busy week. My wife and I go out a least once a week to our favorite coffee shops where we like to dream-build. We also know of a couple, friends of ours who said that Friday night is their night out together. They would normally have dinner and watch a movie after. They will not accept any appointments or invitations from anyone on Friday nights. 2. Take time to give your partner a call during the day Once again, I remember the days I was courting my wife. The phone was just glued to my ears. It was difficult to say goodbye on the phone. Every chance I got, I would try to call her and her voice was music to my ears. Didnt you experience this somehow? Sure you did! Now after being married for many years, in spite of my busy schedule in the office I still will get a chance to call my wife from the office just to greet her. 3. Send SMS messages Majority of the people today have mobile phones. This is a great tool also for us to send greetings or sayings to our loved ones. We can be so caught up in the rat race that can take all of our time, with a mobile phone, there is no excuse to send a message or call our loved one using this great invention of communication for a lot of times we may not have the time to buy a card from the bookstore. 4. Always look good for your partner, dont be sloppy When I was courting my wife, I remember how I tried to look my best for her. I stayed long in fact in the mirror to make sure everything was in the right place like my hair; I saw to it that my clothes had the right color combination and if they were pressed well etc. Have you watched movies and even read comics that portrayed reality of married people who after many years the wife dress sloppily at home with curlers on her hair in a loose house-dress? The husband doesnt shave daily and wears his favorite torn t-shirt? This definitely removes the romance between them that cannot bring the excitement of seeing each other. We have heard a lot of couples complain about this and also complain that their partners too dont care to keep their figures in shape anymore. They make the excuse that the other should accept him or her, as they promised in their marriage, for better or worse. This can be a reason for a start to a failure in marriage. Dont do this to one another. Always look your best to make your partner happy and only have eyes for you. 5. Jot down important dates such as birthdays, anniversaries etc. This may seem insignificant for many, but mind you, this is a big thing especially for wives. Women in general are very sentimental and as they say, its the thought that counts. I remember my sister in laws experience in their 1st year of marriage. Her husband one day asked her the date of her birthday because he had to write it for a document. This made her furious because she couldnt believe he didnt remember. It wasnt a big deal for my brother in law but that created their 1st big fight because for the wife it was inconceivable that if he loved her, for him not to know much about her. From that time on he made sure he wont forget to send her flowers or at least to give her a birthday card. In fact, its always nice to give surprises once in awhile on these special occasions. It doesnt have to be expensive but again, its the thought that counts. You may think of other ways of exciting a relationship because there is no limit to your creativity. Acupuncture May Help with Hot Flashes

By Michael Roland High quality research is showing a link between Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) and breast cancer. In fact with long term HRT, over ten years, the risk may even double. As news travels about the possible harm caused by this therapy, women across America and indeed across the globe are responding by declining HRT. Of course one of the great benefits of HRT has been the reduction of menopausal symptoms like hot flashes. Mild hot flashes can be annoying, while severe hot flashes can be debilitating. Mayo clinic reported that up to 75% of American menopausal and post-menopausal women suffer from hot flashes. Decrease in HRT usage means an increase in hot flash sufferers. While the scientific evidence is still mixed, a recent study published in the Journal of Fertility and Sterility suggests that acupuncture may be helpful in reducing hot flashes. Acupuncture, the ancient art of using tiny needles to affect the bodys energies, may have an effect on hormones. Women who received acupuncture in the study had a reduction of the severity of their hot flashes. Acupuncturists and their patients have long known that acupuncture can be helpful for a host of conditions. So, why is the research only now starting to show that acupuncture works? Michael Roland, L.Ac., MTCM a licensed acupuncturist who works with Dr. Andrew Weils Program in Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona and has a private practice in Tucson, Arizona explains it like this: Effective research models for studying acupuncture need more development. Were still trying to use the same research model to see if acupuncture is effective that we use to study whether or not pills work. Both acupuncture and pill usage are very different and so require different research models. Acupuncture is, by its very nature subjective, it must be. The higher the skill of the acupuncturist the better the results for a broader range of patients. We are not little pills. When we have skilled acupuncturists working within research models that allow their skills to be used properly, we will see more and better results. However, even within the current constraints of research models, acupuncture is showing itself to be effective. Should you try acupuncture for your hot flashes? There is evidence to suggest that it will be helpful. Its also safe. The British Medical Journal published a study showing no serious adverse reactions in 34,000 acupuncture treatments. Many patients also say that they experience a sense of well-being and relaxation during and after acupuncture treatments. It is also possible, in some cases, to treat more that one condition in the same session. So if you have headaches and hot flashes for instance, acupuncture can help both within the same session. Along with acupuncture, you may also want to try a higher fiber diet that includes soy as well as regular exercise. Good Luck and Good Health! Memory Cross Coloring Cards - Unique Christian Homeschool Easter Craft

By Sheryl Frey Are you looking for an exciting new craft for your homeschool group to do for Easter? You may want to consider Memory Cross Easter Coloring cards! A Memory Cross is a four panel interactive card that is designed origami style. They unfold to reveal selected bible verses. Most are bright and colorful and are used to share the gospel and aide in Scripture memorization. The creator, Pastor Andy Lambert, originally intended them to be used in childrens sermons to tell bible stories. He was searching for a tool that would help capture the attention of the children and help them to memorize verses. Because he couldnt locate anything that met this needs, he teamed up with another pastor and the owner of a printing business to create what are now known as Memory Cross cards. For Easter, they have a product that is designed to fold like the originals, but look more like coloring book pages. It uses select bible verses to tell the Easter story. Kids will love coloring them and after they are done, they will still enjoy flipping their creation around to show off the Easter story to others. The first panel displays Jesus on a donkey on Palm Sunday and the final panel shows His wonderful Resurrection. Even younger children, who may not yet be able to read the panels, can use this craft to remind them of the Easter story so they can tell it again and again. After Easter, you can try the various collections of Memory Cross cards that all teach selected bible verses. There are packs that teach the Ten Commandments, the Apostles Creed, the Lords Prayer, and other collections of favorite verses! Your kids will no longer roll their eyes when it is scripture memory time! Sheryl Frey is a Christian mom dedicated to helping others find great Christian products like Memory Cross to share their faith. She also organizes the Memory Cross Kids challenge. How to Choose Colors for Your Bridesmaids’ Jewelry on Your Wedding Day

By Penny Olson When designing jewelry, the sky is the limit as far as color choices, stones, shapes and over-all design. But just like a cherry on a sundae or the star on the top of a Christmas tree, no outfit is complete without jewelry. I would start with making a choice on your bridesmaids dresses. Take your Maid of Honor with you to help you make a decision because usually there are more choices of bridesmaid dresses than there are Wedding gowns in the boutiques. This will help you get some feedback as far as what will work for all of the girls and she can also try some of them on, since they normally look very different on a person than they do on the rack. Once you have made a decision, make sure that you get a swatch of the fabric so that you have a true reference to the color of the gowns. I would not recommend trying to match the tones in the jewelry by memory, especially if youd like to go with a similar color scheme. This simple, and not to mention free, tip will make life much easier in the long run. The next thing you will need to consider is what sort of stones youd like your girls to wear on the big day. There are quite a lot of choices when it comes to this subject, you can go with semi-precious stones, crystals, pearls or even just a simple pendant on a satin cord. The best place to start is with style of the dresses, taking into consideration the color and the cut of the dress itself. Then you can decide if youd like to go with one type and shape of stone for example, crystals or pearls, you can have a single strand or you can also go with a layered look of two or three stands of the same stone. I personally find this very effective and its also nice because if you go with a necklace and bracelet that are of a simpler design, your girls will get much more use out of them in the future. If you are having trouble finding something that will compliment your dresses closely, dont worry, I find that if you go with a mono-chromatic scheme and put several shades together that are in the same family it will give you a little more interest in the jewelry and you dont have to be so concerned with having a perfect match. You can view a sampling of Swarovski Crystal colors using this Swarovski Crystal color chart. Also, dont be afraid to consider other color options when working with hues in this manner. For example, you may find that with a pale green dress, shades of citrine or yellow topaz will look very nice, or even shades of blue. It all depends on the undertones in the fabric. The last thing to consider is the shapes of the stones that you wish to use. You could go with a single size, like tiny pearls on layered strings for a very feminine and classic look. Or you may want to go with several shapes and sizes that when put together, will make a pattern and create some interest like the Swarovski Crystal Round and Bicone necklace (see link below), this can be very dramatic or just slight variations in the shapes. If you just cant find that perfect piece to compliment your wedding day, for you, your bridesmaids or even the mothers of the bride and groom, visit Brilliant-Wedding-Jewelry.com. What! Aromatherapy Products As Household Cleaners And Fresheners? Hmmm, Gotta See This!

By Tim Gorman Since you’ve got to do house cleaning, you can also reap the benefits of aromatherapy at the same time you’re at it! If you’ve ever fought the good fight of household chores, you might be acquainted with the fact that the odor of a number of products are overpowering. If used with no suitable airing, several can be the source of illness. It would be great if your domestic responsibilities were refreshing as opposed to just being strenuous? They can be and your home can be refreshed too. Here’s how to accomplish that. First, here are a small number of guidelines Creating your personal domestic cleansers is simple, enjoyable and money-saving, particularly if you formulate hefty amounts. Like all domestic cleaning products and freshening products, keep in mind to correctly tag those which are home-produced. Furthermore bear in mind to stockpile these items in a spot somewhere kids or pets can’t get a hold of them. Although they’re non-hazardous, intake of extreme quantities can be capable of causing illness. At all times keep essential oils away from the eyes. Aromatherapy ingredients that are to be used for cleaning/freshening and directions for application To refresh the atmosphere within your residence, place your preferred scent into a pot of water and simmer blend on the range for a number of hours. The aroma of citrus rinds is bracing however you can make use of whichever essential oil you like best. To make sure there’s constantly a spanking new scent in the restroom pinch a small number of drops of essential oil on top of the cardboard roll that holds the toilet paper. The fragrance will discharge with each pull. Bear in mind to do this again with every fresh roll you put onto the despenser. If you fancy to use chemical-based clean-up products but have a preference for leaving behind a bouquet that doesn’t reek like harsh chemicals, compose a rinse by means of water and your preferred essential oil. Eucalyptus, pine, lemon, wintergreen, lavender and oodles of others are excellent choices. Four drops for each pint of water is a first-rate proportion. Put blend into a misting jug and employ it as a kind of ‘final rinse’ while cleaning-up. Store this mixture in a dark area. Tee tree oil and lavender essential oils contain anti-bacterial properties so you are able to use this kind of innate blend for clean-up of countertops. Now combine a a small number of drops with water and spray on surfaces. For big jobs like destroying mold and mildew, include around 50 drops in a bucket of water. Now here is an uncomplicated formula for a home-produced carpet freshener. In a bowl mix 4 cups of baking soda or cornstarch with 25 drops rosewood essential oil, 35 drops of eucalyptus essential oil and 30 drops lavender essential oil. Split up chunks and mix together well. Transfer into a shaker container. Shake over carpets about 15 minutes preceding vacuuming. As an alternative to the essential oils listed here, you can blend your own individual favorites. To wash floors, combine 15 drops of orange essential oil and 8 drops of lemon essential oils, 1 gallon hot water and 2 tablespoons liquid soap. This combination will work on hard jobs and will leave the area smelling spanking new. Formulate your personal dryer sheets by inserting some drops of your pet essential oil on top of a towel. Include the towel with the dryer clothes and dry as you usually would. For a profound slumber, put lavender essential oil into a spritz-type container. Lightly spritz bed sheets previous to retiring for the night. Ok. There you have it, a partial list of ways to use your essential oils and aromatherapy products for cleaning, etc. And you thought they were only good for your nose! Names Ringtones - Know Who is Calling You

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Philip_Nicosia]Philip Nicosia Phone models are getting fancier and fancier as mobile technology progress. More and more high tech features are being incorporated into phones like megapixel cameras, mp3 players, Bluetooth, video playback, among others. These additions are turning mobile phones into true convergence equipment. Not surprisingly, the accessories that are being put inside phones are also getting more sophisticated and try to keep abreast with these fast changes in mobile phone technology. Ringtones are a good example of this development. In terms of ringtone development, we have indeed come a long way from the ancient ringtones that were nothing more than glorified bleeps and rings. As mobile phones undergo their own technological evolution, so do the ringtones that we have been putting in our phones. From those literal RING tones, phones eventually carried melodic ringtones that you also have the option to compose on your own. Then came polyphonic ringtones that approximate midi files. Polyphonic ringtones were the first step toward the development of tones that actually simulate what it is to hear a song or actual melody in your phone. From there, MP3 ring tones or real tones became all the rage. You now have the chance to use your favorite song as a ringtone for your phone. Now ringtones have undergone another stage of evolution with the introduction and rising popularity of names ringtones. What are names ringtones anyway? They are personalised ringtones that you can download to your mobile phone. The difference here is that this type of ringtone contains the name of the caller, which you can then assign to the appropriate contact in your mobile phones phonebook. For example, you can buy a names ringtone that contains the name Amy and then use it by assigning it to Amy Brenner, a contact in your phonebook. Names ringtones are very convenient and useful to mobile phone owners because it automatically notifies you who is calling on your mobile phone without even looking at the screen. This kind of advantage did exist before because you can assign a dedicated ringtone to a particular contact. But the added advantage here is that, with a names ringtone, it brings customisation and personalisation a step further. There is something unique and refreshing to actually hear the name of the person you are calling as it gives your mobile phone the semblance of having an artificial intelligence reminiscent of those science fiction movies where futuristic gadgets announce who the caller is in their communications devices. A names ringtone brings the convenience of no-look recognition to callers that contact you on your mobile phone. The personalisation aspect is a big attraction to mobile phone owners. Phone owners love to do little things to their phones to put a personal stamp on an otherwise mass market device. They would change the phones casing, wallpaper, themes and even lights to reflect the individual taste and personality of the owner. With a names ringtone the personalisation enters the phonebook itself. Leading a Niche Market in University Circles - Nu Leadership Series

By Daryl Green Any committee is only as good as the most knowledgeable, determined and vigorous person on it. There must be somebody who provides the flame. Lady Bird Johnson With the huge market demands for learning in businesses, what organizations are meeting these needs? Innovative educational institutions have found a niche that traditional institutions have ignored, snubbed, or overlooked; this is primarily adult learners. Davis, author of Future Perfect, maintains that distance learning provides new opportunities to students because it provides portable education. Morgan, author of Imagination, argues that empowering people in organizations stimulates imagination and innovation. Before selecting Regent University, I reviewed several graduate programs extensively. Below are my top eight innovative doctoral programs: Nova Southeastern University the largest independent institution of higher education in the Southeast, with more than 25,000 students. Northcentral University - the convenience of 100% online distance learning. University of Phoenix - over 17,000 faculty, and staff, serving the University’s 200,000 adult students, globally. Touro University International an accredited 100% on-line doctorate program in business. Antioch University- doctoral programs with an individualized student learning with faculty mentoring and intensive-residency. Capella University online degrees with more than 825 faculty members around the country. Fielding Institute doctoral students participation with a scholarly community of scholars throughout the world. Walden University an accredited graduate institution offering advanced degrees online (engineering, human services, etc.) to working professionals. There are numerous non-traditional institutions entering the marketplace. You have plenty of options. How can you effectively locate them? I would suggest you examine the Jonnies Distance Learning Page (http://www.geocities.com/siliconvalley/haven/2386/dlacc.html). Dont settle for the snobby attitudes of academic traditionalists. Students can take advance of these innovative institutions thereby sending a clear message to traditional universities. Therefore, this message demonstrates the market power of the Knowledge Worker.
